Compass Rings NYSE Opening Bell on IPO Day!

IMG_1785.jpg
IMG_1807.JPG

2.5 years ago I met with a team from a small brokerage based out of New York. They were relatively unknown on the West Coast, but starting to make waves within the industry. I was 3 years into the business, had great mentors, and a great partnership with Berkshire Hathaway.

But this meeting was different. This group named Compass spoke about being a large company, with a small feel. High tech and high touch. They laid out a clear vision to an agent centric culture, which would empower the largest group of entrepreneurs in the country, and give them a bigger piece of the pie.

They wanted us to leave our comfort zone, a large, bright corner office in exchange for a closet sized office in a small space they had just built out in La Jolla. Even though they only had 250 agents in San Diego and a small staff, they asked us to buy into a picture that has been painted before; but promised the independent, supportive environment small business owners crave. And I believed it! They empowered most everyone in the building to be their best. Fast forward to this morning, as I watched the Compass founders ring the bell on the New York Stock Exchange, I got chills. Even though my impact has been a speck of sand on a big beach, I felt a sense of accomplishment that you can usually only feel when you buy into something much bigger than yourself, as in team sports. A belief that anything is possible if you have a common goal. When I put on my Compass T- Shirt this morning before the ringing of the bell, I felt like I was proudly putting on my teams jersey before the championship game. Win or lose, I knew I am on the right team guided by inspirational executives, and championship talent that is just getting started. #CompassIPO #Compass #AgentsOfCompass #RealEstate #NYSE

Buying Real Estate with Bitcoin

You would expect a home in La Jolla with an ocean view to sell for $5 million, but what makes a property in Bird Rock different is the way you can buy it. Forget about that traditional mortgage - this seller will accept cryptocurrency, like bitcoin.

VETERAN'S DAY | Proud to be an American

FlagPhoto.jpg

San Diego is a big military community, so I’ve made some close friends and worked alongside numerous veterans. I feel comfortable generalizing them all as caring, disciplined, hard working, ethical, loving, and unbelievably brave. Working with VA homebuyers is probably my favorite experience in real estate because these families deserve so much in return for their service. Candidly speaking, when I see a serviceman or woman out in the community in their fatigues, it instantly reminds me of how grateful I am for those who sacrifice so much for the freedoms I typically take for granted... and I usually try to thank them for making that decision. If you haven’t done so already, take a moment today to acknowledge and thank a veteran you know and love. No matter how much political noise is out there, I will always be grateful for those who defend our country and proud to be an American

JUST SOLD! When people ask me what’s it’s like to sell real estate, my typical description of the job Is as follows: “It consists of 70% problem solving, 20% acting as psychologist, and 10% is sales and marketing. The sale of this property was exhibit number one. After 4 months of diligently prospecting the owner for an interview, I beat out 4 competing agents for the job. After officially being hired, Covid protocols added an unknown element, and the real work began. Here is a very brief glimpse behind the sale...

-Sale was a top priority for 181 days.

-3 different Marketing Initiatives.

-PR efforts resulted in features in LA Times & Inman News.

-2 Marketing videos with nearly 25,000 hits

- Marketing campaigns generated 1.6M+ targeted impressions.

-22 private showings wearing PPE during Covid - 19.

-Prepping a 5,400sqft, 3 story home for a showing takes a minute. Tasks may also include: Sweeping, cleaning pool, picking up after pets, etc. Closing down after the showing is a bit easier.

-Showings resulted in 4 buyer offers.

-Negotiated counter offers on 6 different occasions.

-Selected buyers completed 16 different inspections on the property.

-Overcame Obnoxious Repair Negotiations and completed Mold Remediation.

-Schmoozed 2 different home appraisers.

-Negotiated release of non refundable $100,000 deposit to seller.

Today Lauren & I participated in Walk. Run. Move. With LightBridge Hospice Community Foundation. We chose to “Move” at the batting cages in honor of our loved ones, and the way we first met, playing in a charity softball tournament. It’s always awesome to watch your wife hit line drives in the 50mph cages. #MoveWithLightBridge

Reminiscing on a listing I still want to sell!

Falcon.jpg

This listing was supposed to be a game changer for me. An 11,500 sqft mansion for $3.5M sitting on the bluff of a nature preserve, overlooking a stunning lake— the largest lakefront estate in California. I was only 1.5 years into the business and it was my first real taste of the luxury market. I went all out on the marketing effort which produced good results, but I could never seem to please the seller. After 365 days of relentless and creative marketing efforts, I chose to eat humble pie and take the loss. I walked away from it. 4 years later and it’s still sitting on the market (at a higher price). I frequently think I want another shot at it.

JUST SOLD! We Go Above and Beyond!

download.png

JUST SOLD! When our clients needed to sell their home in LA before moving to San Diego we had the perfect agent for them to collaborate with! Julie Wynn was born & raised in LA and splits her time between Malibu & SD. The day before the scheduled closings she found out that loan docs were not in yet, and they needed to make it to San Diego within 24 hours to close as scheduled. Julie wasted no time and drove up to LA at 5am to grab the docs, catch the surf at her favorite Malibu break, and cruise back to SD just in time to drop off the paperwork and close the deal without a hiccup. Congrats on another great $1,700,000 sale, Julie! You truly go above and beyond for your clients!

JUST SOLD.....after 565 Days!

565.jpg

JUST SOLD! What projects have you worked on for 565 consecutive days? I’m happy to say that after 565 days, I finally closed the 2nd lowest deal of my career $307,300 This one was all about the follow through. I was told over and over and over to walk away. But if working through numerous escrows, probate courts, and an uncooperative homeowners association is what it takes to get to the finish line, then we will do it. The fact that it’s one of the lowest priced sales we have ever worked on makes the finish line even better.

Introducing Kyle Markham

Very excited to introduce you to the newest member of our real estate team Kyle Markham. Over his first 2 years in real estate back in his hometown of Chicago, Kyle assisted over 70 families buy or sell property and was awarded the title of National Rookie of the Year and named one of Top 30 agents under 30 years old in the U.S. If you follow baseball, this is the equivalent of the Padres getting Fernando Tatis from the White Sox. We cannot wait to start collaborating with Kyle!

2.5 million reasons to be happy today!

JUST SOLD! 2.5 million reasons to be happy today! The team is handing over keys to 2 different sets of first time homeowners this afternoon. In my opinion, this is without a doubt the most rewarding experience when selling real estate. Buying a home in San Diego, or anywhere for that matter, is not filled with roses and white picket fences like school leads you to believe when you’re a kid. Most people make years of sacrifices before receiving the keys to their own home. One of today’s buyers has been saving for 20+ years! Being able to play a small role, and see the pure joy in the faces of our clients as they receive the keys to their first home makes you feel like a Genie in a Bottle coming out to assist people and families achieve their dreams.

First Half Sales Figures 2020

1sthalf2020.jpg

A few key traits which I believe lead to success as a professional sales person are: come from a place of service, be empathetic, fearless, adaptable, and resilient. Over the first 6 months of 2020, our team has harnessed these sales mindsets and cleared hurdle after hurdle to help 43 families buy and/or sell real estate. Our goal is to help another 47 families this year, so if you or anyone you know is thinking of buying or selling, please introduce us. We don’t only close deals, we open relationships!

JUST LISTED 36 Acre Apple Orchard + Airplane Hanger + More!

RoyalCity.jpg

Do you like apples?

A family in the Columbia Wine region in Washington received one of my emails where they noticed the Compass Sports & Entertainment logo in my signature and replied requesting more information. We spent a few weeks chatting about the strength and collaborative mindset of the agents in our national network before I was informed that the family had a property in Washington that they were thinking of selling. I quickly connected with my Compass referral partners in Washington, and we jumped on a conference call with the family.

We were pleased to learn that the family wanted to sell this stunning private estate sitting on 42 acres, in the heart of the Columbia Valley wine region. The home is over 8,000 square feet with exposed beams & architectural angles, alongside a 36 acre Apple & Cherry orchard, 3,000 feet of lighted private runway and plane hanger. My other favorite amenities include the indoor racquetball court, and the outdoor kitchen. This beauty was just listed for $2,500,000…How do you like them apples!?

(No better time than to use this classic line from Goodwill Hunting)
